The BC Association of Optometrists opposes the changes that have been made to regulations for B.C. optometrists and opticians– the changes put the eye health and overall health of British Columbians at risk. To understand the issue, please review our concerns and our media releases.
We need your help! Patients and their family members, optometrists, opticians, allied health professionals including ophthalmologists and other doctors, are encouraged to voice their concerns.
PLEASE TAKE ACTION, NOW.
If you are in B.C.:
- Write YOUR MLA, Minister de Jong and Premier Clark. Use the government’s MLA finder to determine whom to write to. Or if you know your MLA, find their email address here. Please copy BCAO at info@optometrists.bc.ca on any emails or feedback we have received from Liberal and NDP MLAs indicates that it is important that you only write to your MLA to ensure that the message is not diluted.
Michael de Jong's email address is: mike.dejong.mla@leg.bc.ca
Christy Clark's email address is: Christy@christyclark.ca - Urge your friends and family to oppose this government policy change by phoning or writing their MLA and Minister Falcon to express their views. Everyone will be impacted by this legislation so they should let their voices be heard.
If you are not in B.C:
- Direct your letter to the Federal Health Minister, Leona Aglukkaq: Aglukkaq.L@parl.gc.ca
We have posted some information to help you get informed and have posted suggested points to include and sample letters here.
The BCAO will press government to consult meaningfully with the leadership in optometry on this serious threat to public health and safety.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to work with the College of Optometrists of British Columbia, other associations and health professionals on this vital matter. BCAO has worked tirelessly to reverse this dangerous threat to the public’s health before. The key to our past success was you, the concerned public, who worked within your communities to put pressure on individual MLAs and the Premier.
